In a way I think that that part of the story mirrors some people. An example is if someones husband travels a lot and are rarly home that person's wifeis more likely to have someone on the side. But there could also be an example of some one waiting for their wife/husband to come home again.
I think that this story definitely mirrors people in the world today. People often rush into a marriage, only to find out later that they love another man/woman. Perhaps that is why so many people get divorced now-a-days. Also, many husbands work long days at far away jobs, leaving their wives home to take care of the household. This can cause mixed feelings, similar to the way Emilia feels in this story.
