Some of the the things that the author described enriched the story. For example when she is describing the scenery or how some one reacted to a situaion. It helped. But when the aurthor is describing the fighting with all the blood and things happening, it is not very enriching.

I believe that in all novels, vivid descriptions add life and feeling to the story. Angeles Mastretta really gives you an in-depth look at how her characters are feeling, and why. She also does a great job at making her scenes come to life in vivid detail in your mind. However, I think that at some points, Angeles Mastretta gives too much detail to things that do not seem all that important. For example, she spends nearly a whole chapter explaining Josepha's menstrual cycle, just to say she is pregnant. Personally, i thought that was unnecessary and unpleasant to read.
